Maze Games

People do maze games for different reasons. Some do them to relax; others, for the challenge. Maze games are a popular item online, but if you're in it for a challenge, nothing will beat our large format paper mazes. Our huge mazes may take time to solve, but they are fun, and even therapeutic!

What makes our big mazes so challenging is a combination of their size and their human-generated design. Small maze games—like the maze to the right from our free mazes page—offer some challenge (depending on age and aptitude), but there is simply little space and few choices for alternate paths. This limits the difficulty of the maze, making it relatively easy.

As you can see in the maze game to the left, however—also from our free mazes page—the narrow path width has increased the complexity of the maze, and the choices available to the mazer. And while this maze is 8.5" x 11", imagine how difficult a maze with this narrow of paths would be if it were twice as large, or three times as large. How about twenty-five times as large! How much more difficult would the maze be if it were that large? Well, that's precisely how much larger our large-format mazes are.

When you increase the area of a maze game and decrease its path width, both the size of the maze and its complexity increase, but not just linearly—they increase exponentially! This means that the mazer must adopt a different mindset to solve large mazes than he/she does when solving smaller ones.

For example, within a standard-size maze, there is little latitude for backtracking or moving away from the objective, at least if you still want to be progressing toward the objective. Not so in large format mazes.

In huge mazes, like The Scrambler, the sheer scope of the maze provides for many more legitimate path choices. In other words, the path you're following may take you from top to bottom and back, or run the entire width of the maze and back, and you could still be on the right path. The size opens up a whole new level of complexity.
