The World's Biggest Single-sheet Paper Maze?
June 21, 2011 -
BigMazes.com files a claim with Guinness for the world's biggest single-sheet paper maze.
It's no secret that we're proud of our first big maze—The Scrambler. But is it to o presumptuous to believe that it's the biggest paper maze in the world? Well, we decided to do a little research, just to see. What we found is that there are paper mazes that are technically much, much bigger than ours. Two of them when completed—The Connelly Maze and The Connelly II—occupy 688 and 3031 letter-size pages, respectively. Those dwarf The Scrambler!
But we feel that our first big maze, and all those that will follow, still have a couple things that these other monster mazes don't. First, The Scrambler is one continuous sheet, not hundreds of sheets taped together. Granted, these days there are probably printers large enough to print those other mazes... maybe. So that's a difference that may be easily overcome.
But what we believe is so unique about our maze is that it, unlike the other large paper mazes out there, is human-generated, and not computer-generated. There is maze-generating software available all over the internet, such as on this site, and so it's not too much of a stretch to suggest that someone could make a maze much bigger than the Connelly mazes without too much trouble. But planning, designing, and building a maze as big as The Scrambler with just human mind and hands—we think that's worth talking about!
So we made a claim with Guinness. It will take a few weeks to hear back from them, but we're tickled to even have something that might even qualify! We'll keep our fingers crossed.
